Step 1: Choose a video from your device
Drop a video onto the tool or choose one from your device. VixFrame creates a local playback URL in your browser and does not upload the video to a server. H.264 MP4 and WebM files generally offer the widest browser support.
Step 2: Find the exact frame
Drag the timeline, enter a timecode such as 00:01:23.500, or use the frame controls for fine adjustments. Play a few frames so VixFrame can estimate the video frame rate, or enter the source FPS manually.

- →: move one frame forward
- Space: play or pause
- F: enter or leave fullscreen
- C: capture the current frame
Step 3: Capture individual frames or a time range
Keep “Frames after current” at 0 to save one image. Enter a larger number to capture the current frame plus that many following frames in one action, up to 120 following frames. For longer jobs, set start and end timecodes under Range capture, then extract every chosen number of seconds or frames.
Step 4: Choose format and output dimensions
Export new captures as PNG, JPG, WebP, or AVIF when the browser supports it. JPG, WebP, and AVIF include a quality control. Keep the original resolution, scale to 50% or 25%, or enter custom dimensions with the aspect ratio locked.
Step 5: Set a frame naming pattern
Combine these placeholders before capturing, and VixFrame will generate each filename automatically:
{video}: original video name{time}: capture timecode{index}: three-digit capture number{date}: current date
Step 6: Review and download your frames
Open the frame library to review every capture. You can rename a frame, return to its timestamp, inspect it at full size, download it, or delete it. Choose “Download all as ZIP” to save every original image at once.
How VixFrame preserves frame quality
VixFrame creates the capture canvas at the dimensions reported by the video instead of the displayed player size by default. PNG adds no lossy compression; JPG, WebP, and AVIF trade some detail for smaller files according to the selected quality. Information already lost during video encoding cannot be restored.
